Integrated Positional Therapy

This service is available Virtual – Due to the pandemic

This specific modality was developed by practitioner and author Lee Albert. It combines the techniques of Muscle Energy Technique (MET) and Strain/Counterstrain (SCS). Integrated Positional Therapy focuses on rebalancing and realigning the body’s structure with the goal of reducing pain, strain, and overall discomfort in the body.

IPT is thought to be a long-term solution. Treatment involves retraining problem muscle groups and improving proper posture and overall function to avoid passive injury, muscle fatigue, soreness, tightness, stiffness, and pain.

What to expect in an appointment

IPT is typically done in person with the practitioner providing hands-on positioning and mild manipulation. However, because of the pandemic, we have developed a session that can be accomplished virtually.

As a part of a full IPT in-person appointment, the therapist would give a home plan of care for you to do on your own. At ISHA we have incorporated this concept with a professional therapist’s guidance over telehealth.

We will guide you into healing positions, check-in to ensure you are doing them optimally, and safely guide you out. Breathwork is essential in this treatment. The therapist will guide you in when and how to establish proper breathing techniques to support the release and relaxation of tensed muscles.

Other Useful Information

Integrated Positional Therapy works mostly with musculoskeletal ailments. Although it is ideal to get movement in while experiencing COVID symptoms, it may be ideal to schedule a Yoga Therapy appointment.

Injury or Surgery

If you had a recent injury or surgery, give yourself some time before doing an Integrated Positional Therapy session.  It is best to get adequate rest first. If there is healthy swelling or warmth in the area, that means your body is being a superstar by starting the healing process.  You want to be mindful not to reinjure or make the injury worse.

Once you have given the natural healing process a chance, IPT is a wonderful option to continue on your healing journey. This type of therapy helps to strengthen weak areas, release tension, and rebalance the body.

Other Health Concerns

If you have other health concerns that you are not sure if yoga would be helpful or not, please consult with your doctor.

Referrals of a Doctor

Keep in mind that if you have been referred by your doctor and you are working with a specific condition, always let your doctor know your progress and how often you participate in classes.

We are able to provide your doctor with SOAP notes if needed.

Yoga or other healing services we do here, we do not claim it will cure diseases.  Please do not stop taking any medications your doctor prescribed you with.  If you think you are feeling better as a result of your healing arts services, please have a discussion with your doctor and get reliable tests done to track any changes you are experiencing.
